Sheffield University Wind Orchestra

Sheffield University Wind Orchestra is an award winning dynamic group of young musicians drawn from across the University, formed in 2000 by Anthony Houghton. We explore a wide variety of repertoire written for symphonic wind band as well as often having the privilege to perform premiere and student compositions, allowing us to be one of the most dynamic groups at the University.

Due to Covid, like many other ensembles, we have had to adapt our music making to continue in a safe manner. Therefore, we have had the opportunity to create a variety of smaller ensembles. These range from a Brass group to a wind quintet, a flute ensemble to a jazz group among others. We are enthusiastic to seize this opportunity to do something new and explore different repertoire and group dynamics.
Led by Gareth Widdowson, Gareth will still be supporting our chamber groups along side Sarah Watts, Director of Performance at the University of Sheffield Music Department.
